Southern Silk Road News: Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing Meets Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvir

According to Silk Road News Agency: On August 6, 2026 (local time) in Bangkok, Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing, at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, arrived in Bangkok for an official goodwill visit to Thailand. On the same day, Prime Minister Anutin hosted a welcome ceremony for President Min Aung Hlaing at the Prime Minister's Office. The two leaders jointly reviewed a guard of honor and held talks.

This marks President Min Aung Hlaing's first visit to Thailand since he assumed the Myanmar presidency in April this year, and his fourth overseas trip following visits to China, India and Laos. During the talks, the two sides reached broad consensus on strengthening cooperation in security, trade, energy, labor and transboundary environmental affairs. Prime Minister Anutin stated that Thailand fully supports Myanmar's participation in ASEAN affairs and advocates the restoration of bilateral interactions through gradual and incremental steps. President Min Aung Hlaing said that the new government is committed to advancing democracy and stability in Myanmar and has made the restoration of normal relations with ASEAN a priority.

Following the talks, the two leaders witnessed the exchange of four cooperation agreements covering labor affairs cooperation, labor placement, space technology development, and water quality management of border areas and transboundary rivers. The two sides agreed to raise annual bilateral trade to 12 billion US dollars. On the same day, the two leaders also jointly attended the opening ceremony of the 2026 Thailand-Myanmar Business Forum.

Chen Entian, Secretary-General of Silk Road News Agency and Chairman of the Southern Silk Road International Cooperation Committee, said: "Myanmar and Thailand are key node countries along the Southern Silk Road. We welcome the meeting between the leaders of the two countries and the normalization of bilateral relations, which injects new impetus into deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, and brings new vitality to the peace, stability, prosperity and development along the Southern Silk Road."
