Singapore News Silk Road News Agency,On October 3, the Po Chiak Tan Clan Temple in Singapore grandly held its 150th anniversary celebration. The event reviewed the century-long overseas history of the Tan ancestors who sailed across the ocean to pioneer Southeast Asia, inheriting the resilient, hardworking, virtuous and enterprising spirit of overseas Chinese pioneers in Nanyang. The Southern Tan Clan General Association and the International Silk Road Guild Hall Alliance extended sincere congratulations, witnessing the glorious inheritance of the Tan community’s century-old clan culture in Singapore.
As one of Singapore’s time-honored ancestral halls for overseas Chinese clans, the Po Chiak Tan Clan Temple carries the cross-century migration history, entrepreneurship story and cultural inheritance of the Tan ethnic group. Over the past 150 years, numerous Tan ancestors left their hometowns, sailed to Nanyang, overcame maritime hardships, and pioneered new lives in Singapore. Through diligence and perseverance, they developed businesses, built communities, integrated into local society with inclusiveness and modesty, and inherited traditional Chinese ethics and culture from generation to generation. They forged the noble spirit of Nanyang overseas Chinese: courage in exploration, perseverance in struggle, mutual assistance and cultural integration between China and foreign lands.
After one and a half centuries of trials and development, the Po Chiak Tan Clan Temple has long united overseas Tan clansmen in Southeast Asia, maintained clan friendship, inherited Chinese civilization, and promoted overseas Chinese community solidarity. It has become an important platform for overseas Chinese to take root in Nanyang, strengthen fellowship and pass down traditional culture.
The 150th anniversary ceremony is not only a profound tribute to the pioneering and enterprising spirit of Tan ancestors in Nanyang, but also a new starting point for clan cultural inheritance and Silk Road people-to-people exchanges in the new era. The congratulatory messages from Chairman of the Southern Tan Clan General Association and the International Alliance of Silk Road Guild Hall pointed out that the pioneering, inclusive and dedicated spirit of Tan pioneers embodies the essence of the Maritime Silk Road civilization. Moving forward, relevant institutions will further deepen clan exchanges in Southeast Asia and cultural cooperation along the Silk Road, inherit overseas Chinese ancestral traditions, carry forward the timeless Silk Road spirit, and elevate non-governmental friendly exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations to a new level.
