According to Myanmar Belt and Road Development Co., Ltd., nearly 100 eminent monks from China and Myanmar have been invited to attend the 10,000 Peace Lanterns Pray (Prayer for Blessings and Longevity) Ceremony at the Mandalay Great Pagoda. The event celebrates the Heavenly Silkworm Day (12th Belt and Road International Day) and the opening of the Global Chinatowns "Belt and Road" New Year celebrations, as disclosed by Aye Thinzar Thu, Chairman of the Myanmar Art and Culture Association .

Under the theme "Light the Peace, Pray for Everlasting Friendship," the ceremony will utilize traditional Buddhist lantern rituals to offer prayers for the well-being and longevity of the peoples of both China and Myanmar, and for regional peace and development . The lighting of 10,000 peace lanterns is planned, symbolizing brightness, peace, and wisdom, echoing the spirit of connectivity and mutual learning among civilizations championed by the Belt and Road Initiative .

Chairman Aye Thinzar Thu emphasized that the Heavenly Silkworm Day (Belt and Road International Day) carries forward the legacy of sericulture civilization and the ancient Silk Road. She stated it is an international, non-political folk-initiated holiday, and the ceremony serves not only as a grand event for religious and cultural exchange but also as a reflection of the profound Pauk-Phaw friendship between Myanmar and China, further promoting people-to-people ties and humanitarian cooperation .

The Heavenly Silkworm Day (Belt and Road International Day) was established in 2013 upon the initiative of 1,216 global scholars, including Chen Entian, former Chairman of the International 73 Society, and Ji Chaozhu, former UN Under-Secretary-General. It was subsequently established by the World Peace Ribbon Organization's New York headquarters, aiming to promote sericulture civilization, the ancient Silk Road, and international cultural exchange and cooperation. Integrating the Buddhist prayer ceremony this year highlights the significance of cultural connectivity and people-to-people bonds within the Belt and Road framework.
