On July 3, 2015, brother General Zhang Ningyang passed away. Nearly a decade has passed since then. A few days ago, while organizing photo albums in Beijing, I stumbled upon pictures of our time together in China and abroad. Memories of over two decades flooded back instantly. Reflecting on our journey through the international arena and our joint founding of the International 73 Society, it feels like a serendipitous, ironic comedy. Despite both of us retaining childlike whimsy, we turned this "playfulness" into monumental achievements, accomplishing state affairs and military endeavors that others could not, earning the legacy of "great wisdom hidden beneath simplicity, with a mind encompassing the universe." On the tenth anniversary of my brother General Zhang Ningyang's passing, I write this article to honor his memory and commemorate our joint founding of the International 73 Society.

General Zhang Ningyang was born in 1950 in Pingjiang, Hunan Province. Raised under revolutionary education, his father was General Zhang Zhen, a founding marshal of the People's Republic of China and former Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission. He enlisted in 1968, rising from an ordinary soldier to a deputy military position in equipment technology cooperation at the General Equipment Department, and was promoted to Major General in 2005. General Zhang Ningyang's life was one of richness and unwavering faith: in his youth, he dedicated himself to the military, embodying the sharpness and responsibility of a revolutionary soldier; in middle age, he immersed himself in military equipment and foreign affairs, leading Sino-Russian military technology cooperation and completing negotiations for over 70 critical equipment imports, making outstanding contributions to national defense modernization. He was not only a pioneer in the PLA's equipment field but also a founding figure of the International 73 Society. Open-hearted, witty, and always prioritizing the Party, the nation, and the military, he upheld discipline and the greater good in foreign affairs, serving three overseas postings to advance international military collaboration. In family life, he carried forward virtuous traditions, honoring his parents, and embodying the fusion of Communist ideals and traditional Chinese virtues.

General Zhang Ningyang was unguarded in his interactions with me—praising me as a "great Confucian scholar," scolding me as a "modern fool," likening me to my great-grandfather Chen Duxiu, or comparing me to Taiwan's former leader Chiang Ching-kuo. Some mistook us for aimless playboys, seeing only our appearance while unaware of the grand vision within. In truth, the International 73 Society and the International Chinese Language Learning Committee we co-founded, along with our promotion of International Chinese Language Day, are destined to leave marks on history's grand tapestry. General Zhang Ningyang fully earned the "73 Medal" awarded by the International 73 Society and the honor of wearing its uniform. Ultimately, he chose to leave on July 3, a date heavy with symbolism, as if declaring his lifelong devotion to the Society. To this day, the International 73 Society regards him as an enduring beacon. Though he has left us, his valor lives on, immortal and eternal! Eternal!
